Great show at Fortune Sound Club tonight!

October 17, 2014

Fortune Sound Club invited the SJMA to help promote this great show that is happening tonight and our logo is going to be on all of the promo and merchandise! This is a fantastic opportunity for a new group of people in Vancity to hear about our program!

Too Many Zooz features a trumpet player, saxophone player, and percussion! It is so inspiring to see Too Many Zooz using these instruments in such a fun, modern and engaging way!

Kutapira (the band that is opening for Too Many Zooz) is an amazing band that combines Afro-Cuban vibes together with the melodies of Zimbabwe! A bunch of the SJMA staff are so excited to catch this great show! If you have not got a ticket yet, make sure you do…tonight is going to be an inspiring night of music and dancing!

A Partnership with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra

June 5, 2013

The VSO shares our vision to bring about social transformation through music, providing young people with opportunities to explore their creative potential and benefit from the feeling of pride and community that we offer.

In a show of support for the programming we offer, the VSO is pleased to share its musical and educational resources with students at SJMA through the following opportunities:

Maestro Bramwell Tovey and Assistant Conductor Gordon Gerrard will be available to work with students and provide presentations about the life of a conductor and the world of orchestral music.

VSO rehearsals
SJMA students will be invited to attend VSO Symphonic Encounters open rehearsals up to five times per season.

Once per season, up to twenty students will be invited to sit on-stage during a VSO rehearsal, allowing them to have an up-close and personal view of VSO musicians at work. This is an extremely special offering from the VSO.

Students will have the opportunity to meet a musician during the rehearsal break. A VSO musician will speak with students, describing his or her life as a musician with the VSO. Time for questions from students will be provided.

VSO Elementary School Concerts and Musically Speaking Series
The VSO’s Education Manger will work with SJMA to select a series of concerts throughout the season, which will be of particular interest and relevance for SJMA students. Performances will include Elementary School Concerts and Musically Speaking concerts

Kids’ Koncert Family Days
The VSO will provide tickets to SJMA students and their families to attend VSO Kids’ Koncerts together. Attendance at VSO Kids’ Koncerts, up to five times per season, will also allow families to spend quality time together, in an artistic environment.

SJMA Parent Night
The VSO will provide tickets to parents of SJMA students to attend a concert as part of the “dinner and a show” program planned by Saint James Music Academy. Parents will be able to attend on their own, while students participate in activities at Saint James Music Academy.

VSO School of Music Scholarships
The VSO will provide full scholarships to SJMA students, funding up to 130 half-hour lessons per year at the VSO School of Music.

Chamber Music at SJMA
The VSO will provide a chamber ensemble concert on location at SJMA.
